The 2nd 30 year list: 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.

with 2 comments

Since the middle of 1999, I have been at home, or had a job which allowed me to listen to the radio during work hours. That is what I am used to.

Digital cable gives us 500 channels, so if you multiply that by 24, you get 12,000 hours of TV daily. It would mostly be a waste to me, although I would love the Game Show Network. So we have “extended basic cable” on Cox with no pay channels.

Most of it is garbage. But I do have favorite channels: The Travel Channel, TLC and Discovery, VH1, and sometimes Spike, Comedy Central, E! and PBS. I leave PBS on for the kid at times during the day, but I don’t start watching TV until about 7pm (when The Simpsons comes on).

So with trepidation and guilt, I structured yet another top 100 list, this time for television shows past and present. This one also guarantees glaring ommissions, especially shows I have never seen before. To qualify, I have had to have seen a significant number of episodes (too bad for Entertainment Weekly’s top pick, Mary Tyler Moore.)

Surprising me is how heavy the list is weighted with sit-coms. This definitely shows my mom’s influence. But I should also note that “greatest” in terms of “classic” start around #25 or 26. So shows in the bottom half are shows I’ve liked, and always liked, but they shouldn’t be weighted against entries on my top 100 movies list as classics.

The list.

The sublime flavors of the Lindocola family… (or the custom friends page).

with 2 comments

I have decided that each of my friends on LiveJournal will get their own Lindocola flavor.

– Silky Chocolate.
– Seattle Mist.
– Gothic Cherry.
– Caramel Capuccino.
– Quebecois Quince.

Look for these varieties in your grocier’s soft drink aisles no time in the near future!

I had to make sure, so I popped in the videotape of “Summer Minnesota ‘02″ and fast-forwarded. I confirmed that yes I have met wrenwind in person. I’m pretty sure that she remembers me as “Annoying Man with Camera.”

No time, no money, no websites

without comments

Since I can’t rub two nickels together due to lack of nickels, I had to give up the hosting of my two websites.

dan40.com will forward to My Geocities Account.

dantouchette.com will forward here.

Maybe I can use this to better manage my time.

Three years ago this morning.

I woke up at 8:15 am. the damage was already done. I didn’t have the radio or tv on the trailer. Bronwynn and Sandy were still sleeping. I remember we were practically homeless and I was sleeping outside in the patio. good thing we have a place now, as current management wouldn’t allow that. a crisp and clear morning. I dressed. I got in the car. I got on the freeway. it was 8:34 am. I was converned about traffic and I turned the radio on. this should be the time for the traffic report. “I need a traffic report, people!” I was getting mad. I needed to know where the bottlenecks were! there was some alternate programming. something live. I was confused. my car passed Parkway Plaza. they said the towers collapsed. the next 25 minutes were the most lonely of my life. there was no traffic. passing Miramar, there was a line to get in. no planes were in the air. I got to work on time. we were all in shock. office supply orders came in with a trickle. there wasn’t much work. in the lunch room, the tv was on. I saw everything I needed to see. we were all just silent. I continuously looked on the Net for updates. my radio was tuned to NPR and KOGO and KFMB. this lasted all day. the event was grave, it didn’t hit. it was so unreal. it still is. how did 3000 lives deserve this? politics stopped dead for many hours and many days. I still slept. I still ate. I still didn’t talk to my parents. my Love was with me. I didn’t abondon my theology. the drama continues. our purpose is eternal. things can be changed. I won’t let anybody tell me that things cannot be changed.

Death toll could be 200 as Russians storm elementary school.

Including children. I’m calling a spade a spade here. Terrorists are assholes.
