A victory for pop anarchy.
Carrie Underwood wins American Idol.
It is a glaring and gaping decision that leaves the American music-buying public naked in their ignorance of good music or performance.
Who really wins?
Carrie wins because she is guaranteed a million-dollar contract for her nice voice, and despite the fact that she has the stage presence of a wet-mop.
Bo Bice, the runner-up, wins because he doesn’t have to sign his life away to the American Idol soul-stealing machine. And he gets way more pub than his garage band probably deserves.
American Idol wins, because American Idol gets what it wants. Fox wins. Simon Cowell wins. All eight Simons who work on the show win.
The rest of us win.
Because the machine that makes disposable, craphole music will soon collapse on itself: with Internet file-sharing unimpeded, music not worth buying will be free anyway.
